Inaugural NewsletterHello and welcome to the inaugural edition of the reTails newsletter. In this edition, we'd like to explain a little about our group and how you can get involved. reTails came about because of the desire to help more homeless pets find loving homes. reTails is a non-profit animal adoption/service agency and so much more. reTails operates on the philosophy that all cats and dogs have value. These companion animals deserve a life in a loving, nurturing home. Our purpose is to find happy homes for homeless pets and introduce people to the joy of animal companionship. At the present time, this is accomplished through community based adoption events. Rather than having pets waiting in shelters for adopters to visit them, we take them to the adopters' neighborhoods. These events not only showcase animals looking for a new home, but offer expert advice, information, and solutions from experienced trainers, seasoned animal foster "parents", and even veterinarians. We believe providing information and solutions to pet owners with behavioral problems or other issues can and will prevent the surrendering or abandonment of a pet. The first reTails adoption event was held on February 27th at the American Legion Hall in Fishers. There were six rescue groups and plenty of Twenty-four animals went to new homes that day! Eighteen dogs and six cats were placed in loving new homes because of the collaborative effort of the groups involved. The youngest animals adopted were 4 month old mixed puppies and a 3 month old kitten. An 11 year old dachshund was also one of the lucky ones to go to a new home and family. There truly were dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Volunteers are a very important part of reTails. When it comes to helping, there is something for everyone. Do you enjoy working with animals? If so, then please consider fostering an animal. Fostering helps in many ways. Initially, it enables the pet to be released from a shelter. While in a foster home the pet becomes more socialized and learns house manners which makes it easier for them to get adopted. Fostering is a great joy especially when you've worked with a pet and you get to see it adopted into a forever home.

animals looking for new homes. Visitors to the event could interact with both dogs and cats. Those in attendance were able to talk with the above mentioned professionals as well as a certified pet massage therapist whose emphasis is in myofascial release. There was even a mini agility course set up in the middle of the hall so the dogs wouldn't become bored. All pets offered for adoption were spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
Do you have special skills like photography, marketing, fund raising or grant writing? If so, we can use your help! Are you both an animal person and a people person? We can use your help at our adoption events. Your help will ensure that adopters will find just the perfect pet. Not only will you be working around the adoptable animals, but you will also be able to talk to potential adopters about our pets.
