About reTailsShare
RETAILS INC. ("reTails") is a 501(c)(3) Indiana non-profit corporation created in January, 2010. In 2011, an animal died every hour on average in a shelter in Indianapolis. reTails was created to end the killing of animals in central Indiana shelters. More than 8000 cats and dogs are killed in Indy-area shelters annually. Not because the animals are unadoptable, not because there aren't enough homes, but because the status quo in animal welfare for years has come to accept killing of animals and reject the effort required to simply make it a priority to stop killing. reTails is based upon the proven No Kill Equation to remove obstacles to saving the lives of animals. That means bringing great adoptable pets to places where people shop and live, giving alternatives to having animals go to shelters whether their lives are at risk, and providing information and resources to help people try and keep animals. By committing to help pet owners solve problems that often lead to pets being surrendered to animal shelters; by providing people with a convenient way to adopt rescued cats and dogs; by making customer service a priority, reTails intends to end the killing of cats and dogs in shelters that still happens hourly in Indianapolis. Some of you may have heard animal welfare organizations say "We can't save them all." They may claim that we shouldn't focus on the number of animals dying, that the solution is simply one thing (for instance, spay & neuter). We believe this thinking simply lowers expectations and creates excuses for continued decades of failed programs and wasted money. reTails believes we must follow models of communities that have successfully achieved No Kill, and that we must SAVE THEM ALL! The animals selflessly give us so much. As a society of ethical and moral people, we owe it to them to do everything in our power give them a chance at life and reject excuses for not trying. |
